Cause-of-death statistics in 2020 in the Republic of Korea

Background: This study analyzed the causes of death in Korean population 2020.Methods: Cause-of-death data for 2020 from Statistics Korea were examined based on Standard Classification Diseases and Causes Death, 7th revision International Statistical Related Health Problems, 10th revision.Results: In total, 304,948 deaths occurred, reflecting an increase 9,838 (3.3%) 2019. The crude rate (the number per 100,000 people) was 593.9, corresponding to 19.0 10 leading death, descending order, malignant neoplasms, heart diseases, pneumonia, cerebrovascular intentional self-harm, diabetes mellitus, Alzheimer disease, liver hypertensive sepsis. Cancer accounted 27.0% deaths. Within category top 5 organs involvement lung, liver, colon, stomach, pancreas. Sepsis included first time. Mortality due pneumonia decreased 43.3 (per 45.1 severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) 950, which 54.5% people aged 80 or older.Conclusion: These changes reflect continuing diseases old age, including decrease may have been protective measures against SARS-CoV-2. With concomitant fertility, became year Korea’s natural total decreased.
